I closed my Amazon account on January 20th at 7 am. I will never buy from Amazon again. Closing my account in and of itself didn’t hurt mr. bezos but I bet millions of accounts closing did

I haven't closed my account yet. This Friday I am paying the last bit that we owe on our Amazon card and then I will lose it forever. We quit shopping there when Bezos gave that money to Trump. I am super excited to not shop at Amazon ever again!

I've refused to patronize Amazon for several years now. I refuse to buy from this greedy, malignant narcissist, sociopath. He treats his employees like slaves, charges individual sellers too much and treats them criminally.

I now buy anything I need/want from local businesses, food Coop, local farmers, individual small entrepreneurs. I refuse to buy from any multinational-multi- international company. And I won't buy anything from China.

I'm leaning toward your buying habits, but it seems to be difficult to do in this day and age. Any suggestions on how to get around patronizing the oligarchy businesses and China products?

Look on Amazon for what you want. Find the company that makes it and go straight to them.

Yes Dee this has been working for me. And Amazon isn’t cheaper than anywhere else, it’s just more convenient. Small price to pay for ethically sourced products.

I’ve started doing that. The only convenience Amazon provides is free shipping but I’ll gladly pay for shipping to be able to start removing myself from Amazon.

After canceling Prime I did this with all my subscription items. Most of the companies had free shipping and a couple have given me free stuff and, better than that, a thank you note from the owner.

Cut back on consumerism, in general. We have become lazy and spoiled with goods at our fingertips. Take a look at how much unnecessary, unused items in your home. We're all there

Cut back on consumerism/consumption. 100%. We're keeping busy by going through the house room by room, ridding ourselves of everything we do not need. If you're anxiety-ridden right now, channel it into boycotting, protesting, and freeing yourself from capitalism as much as possible. Plan a garden of any size, indoors or out. The feeling you get from self-sufficiency in any degree is also empowering.

Rule of thumb that I follow: any new purchase (excluding groceries) that comes into the house, must be followed by two that go out of the house.

Lots of Temu items on Etsy. I shop both frequently so I notice when an Etsy seller has an overpriced Temu item.

Adopt a minimalist lifestyle. Underconsume. Try not buying anything but food and gas for 1 year. Swedish death cleanse your home. Shop only local and not from big chains. Whatever you do buy, understand where it’s coming from and who manufactured it. Live your values.

I am bloody consistent. I don’t just stop giving my business to somebody for a week. I haven’t been to a hobby lobby in many, many years. I’ve never eaten a chick fila. Done with Amazon and Walmart. Loved Target but that romance is over. I think a lot of consumers are voting with their dollars and are as consistent as I am. Keep applying pressure. They only care about profits. We’re in charge of that.

This is what I keep posting everywhere. Boycotts are a blip. Changing your lifestyle so it matches with your values? That takes time and effort and should be the way. Opt out of corporate America and giving your $$ to oligarchs. Shop local. Live a minimalist lifestyle. Delete social media. Get away from Google and free email. And on and on. Opt out of the American culture that uses you so others get rich. It’s do-able.

Target dropped their DEI support and customer pushback (boycott) was so strong and immediate that Target is now being sued by its own stockholders. Oops.

Absolutely. When we moved here 30 years ago, we ticked all the boxes - good school, swim team, house, commute to work, diverse small town feel close to big city, etc. We loved this house. Still do. But I would have flat out refused it if curbside recycling wasn’t an option. Then we added geothermal, rain barrels, composting, solar as soon as we had the cash. Drove a hybrid for the last 5 years. It sounds like privilege (inarguably is) but living aligned with values matters.

I haven’t bought from Amazon since December. I had to port my music to Spotify so I could cancel Prime but I got that done a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t realize that Prime is $159 per year!!!! And… even without Prime, you still get free shipping if u buy more than $35.

We were buying so much dumb stuff on Amazon. Our budget looks so much better without it!

I used to shop Amazon as my replacement for Walmart, which I have boycotted for years. Then Amazon ended the Smile program, which used to make charitable contributions with each purchase. And it only went downhill from there. I don’t think I can cut the cord completely but I have only made two small purchases this year so far.

Alternatives: thrift stores, buy nothing groups, local shops, and eBay.

I only found our recently that stores that ask you if you want to round up are taking advantage of you. The store makes large contribution for which it takes a tax break. Then that money is replaced by customers when they "round up". Sneaky.

While I’ve cancelled my WaPo subscription, the Amazon stuff is a bit more complex due to being elderly. My husband is visually challenged and uses the Alexa devices a lot - for music, podcasts, to change tv channels, etc. I don’t want to stop this enriching stuff for him. Our docs have us on specific supplements for health reasons, which are easily found/available on Amazon via subscribe and save. Most of our other past purchases can be done elsewhere in the future without traveling all over. So, I am thinking to stay on prime and unsubscribe from the upgraded music option as we only listen via tv or Alexa devices, and have old ears 😉 Then we can do only “have to” buys for the health stuff or unusual one off have to haves. This keeps the way my DH uses tv, podcasts and music intact, yet super cuts back on our Amazon spend. Cutting the cord seems hard when you are old, and there is only me to do it all. Peace all. Love one another.

Thank you for reminding me to cancel my prime membership, I haven’t ordered anything except some vitamins that only ship through Amazon in the past few months. I can live without them, I also emphasized in my cancellation survey that them cutting DEI, abusing workers, donating to a wannabe dictator, and many other things are why I’m cancelling. They forgot that the ultimate power lies in the consumer, I’m hoping that they will be swiftly reminded of that.
