Another tactic I use is not to click on ads if I’m interested in the product. I note the company and open in a separate browser so Meta doesn’t get the referral link.

I barely use facebook anymore anyway because it is mostly ads and weird posts I never asked for from accounts I never liked or followed (lad bible, stuff about the Flinstones-I guess because of my age?-, etc). I rarely even see posts from friends anymore. And FB marketplace, which I used to use, has become a joke because it keeps changing the algorithm and I rarely see local stuff anymore. I keep my account open because of not wanting to give up childhood friends and distant family. But I don’t know why, because of the way FB prioritizes ads and junk, I rarely see their posts anyway. FB is making itself obsolete with no effort from the rest of us. So is instagram.

Agree. Everytime I log on I see the same 5 users over and over, and most of them just constantly reshare memes, which annoys the shit out of me to begin with. I never spend more than about 15 seconds on Facebook at any one time.

Better yet, just remove the app so you don't see it. If you want to go back someday ,it will still be there. That's what I did.

It’s easy. I did it that years ago and don’t miss facebook and won’t ever go back. Facebook is garbage

I deactivated Facebook a couple months ago; Messenger is still working for me. I let family and close friends know. I have to be careful though - if someone sends me a "link" that goes to FB, the account automatically reactivates without me doing anything! I'm working hard to stay in touch with family and closest friends through actual emails/calls/texts/get-togethers. I thought I'd miss it more - I don't.

I’m only allowing myself to use it on my desktop. I removed the app from my phone.

I got off Facebook years ago. It was toxic. I’m on Instagram but I’ve really been thinking of ditching it as well. Maybe these things would be better if you couldn’t comment on things and could only like them and not dislike them. That way if people like a post then they can upvote it, but nobody can negatively vote on a post en masse. Prevent a group from destroying someone’s post or reputation in an organized effort.

Thanks for this! For me the most important step was turning off all notifications from the app. That makes it much easier to check in on my terms (or not at all).

I deleted FB from my phone after the election (after saving all photos). I am recruiting my friends and family to snapchat because messenger is next. I feel my mental health is better than it has been in years on these new platforms.

Feels good to not be FB, or any META. Deleted them all over the weekend.

Good advice. In addition , I deleted the FB app and signed into facebook.com. Judging by the number of times FB informed me the app is better, I’m guessing this hurts too.

FB is pissing me off with it's nonstop ads and spam. I just look to see friends and family and a support group I belong to, then forget it for the rest of the day.
