Sarasota, Florida, may not be a big spot on the map. But one of the lovely town’s claims to fame is as the unofficial hometown of MAGA. Foul stuff was being concocted here years before it made it to the national stage.
In 2012, The Sarasota GOP awarded the Orange Turd its Statesman of the Year Award. Then it gave him the exact same award again in October, 2016.
Very-short-lived National Security Advisor Michael Flynn bought a home around here a few years ago. He and a cabal are known to hang out here, dreaming up new ways to torture most of America.
Moms for Liberty co-founder Bridget “threesome” Ziegler and hubby, former Florida GOP Chair Christian Ziegler, hark from here.
You may recall the duo from their entertaining sex scandal last year in which Bridget—who used her school board perch to help protect Sarasota’s children from alleged grooming gays—was found to have herself engaged in a threesome involving another woman. Inquisition, heal thyself.
Meanwhile, Christian (an ironic first name if ever there was one) was accused of rape and, somehow, the charge was dropped and disappeared. Some smell a rat. But I digress.
You get the picture. Such is that aspect of Sarasota.
Those of us in Sarasota who actually live on Earth #1 have long tried to ignore the red hats, the banners on flatbeds, the T-shirts, and bumper stickers.
But now this town’s illegitimate spawn is threatening to end our democracy. And so, outnumbered, we take to the streets.
Recently I published an account about our huge President’s Day protest. We also had a few hundred turn out in the center of town on March 4.
Today, we had our first—but hopefully not last—Tesla Takedown, on a major road near the local Tesla dealer. I’d say we had at least a couple of hundred protesters.
[Aside to Rachel Maddow: If you’d cover our protests here on MSNBC, with the news hook about our MAGA history, it would probably boost our turnouts for future protests. Just sayin’ ]
The protest was terrific. Thanks to both We Are Indivisible Sarasota and Indivisible Manatee for organizing it.
Before presenting some of the creative expressions found at the protest, I want to say, definitively, that—contrary to the bullshit that MAGA coward Mike Johnson spews—none of our protesters are paid to do this. We are patriots.
Here are the sentiments of folks who live in MAGA’s hometown. (BONUS one-minute video at the end)
And the winners are (the envelope please)…

For those of you up north who want to remember what it feels like to protest in a warm climate, here’s a brief video.
BRAVO Serasota!
Thanks for the great pictures and the video! I was at Bayfront this morning, and noticed a drone hovering overhead at several points during the event.
